About Us
Blaze Youth Ministry serves the community of Blessed John 23rd in Stanhope Gardens. We also serve young people who are interested in growing with each other in Christ. The youth events and programs are made up of three groups, Blaze Youth for those 12-17 years, Blaze Young adults for those 18-35 years and Revive Music and Drama for those young at heart.
Revive Music and Drama
(Young at Heart)
Revive is the music and drama arm of our youth ministry. We are a mixed group of youth and young adults serving the parish in a creative and musical way. Revive worships at every mass on a Sunday 6pm night.
Revive is also involved in putting together the music for the Passion of Our Lord Monologue drama which has reach and inspired more than 1,000 people. This year, we look forward to be involved in more drama and music presentations.
Revive looks forward to being part of the learning community of Blessed John 23rd and have the school students involve in our music and liturgy. If you are interested in joining this group, just show up on a Sunday night and say hello.
Blaze Young Adults
(18 - 35 Years Young)
Blaze Young Adults is made up of young adults at heart wanting to deepen their faith in Christ and to journey with other young adults on a similar path.
Our very popular program is "Ask the Priest Anything" night. This is where we get our priest to answer some of our burning questions in a safe space. We also have Praise, Worship and Adoration every month. The Young adults are also involved in the youth mass. Every year we have a retreat for the young adults and this year , we are very excited to be going to the Abbey with the nuns in Jamberoo.
We generally meet every fortnight Sunday after the 6pm Sunday mass at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of the Parish. If you are interested in joining this group, just turn up on Sunday night. .
Blaze Youth
(12 - 17 Years Young)
Blaze Youth is a program designed for young people between the ages of 12 to 17 years or young people in Years 6 - 12. The program is divided into 2 groups, one for the 12 to the 14 year olds (or year 6-8) and the 15 -17 year olds (or year 9-12) . The programs are generally held every fortnight on Friday nights from 6.00-7.30pm at the Library of St Marks (160 Perfection Ave, Stanhope Gardens).
Blaze Youth is a journey to discover and to grow together in Christ with fellow young travellers. The program starts off with prayer and praise and worship followed by a short discussion about the readings and discussions about the many and varied topics. The night is enhanced with games and fellowship afterwards. Check out the events page for more information on the programs.

News
Dear Friends,
Wow! I am definitely feeling the Easter season arriving already! Everywhere I go shopping, there seems to be more and more Easter eggs on sale. I was doing a sharing over the week with all the Year 9s and 10s at St Marks College and a lot of our young people seem to relate Easter to Easter Eggs and chocolates! I shared that Easter is more than just the chocolates and the Royal Easter shows (whom a lot them are going to by the way!), and more than that Easter is a time for us to remember why we are Christians. Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead and opened the doors of heaven for us. I encouraged the kids to discover the Stations of the Cross and journeyed with them through Jesus final hours and at the end of the sharing, they all walked around the church gazing at the portraits of the 14 stations. I was so glad to see our young people praying at each of the stations! Perhaps we might want to do the same and take some time out during this Easter season to reflect on the journey of Jesus in his final hours. I also want to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very blessed Easter and have a safe holiday!
Regards,
Colin
The year has flown by so quickly hasnt it, it is now coming to the end of the season of Lent and we are now preparing for Holy Week already. I hope this season of Lent has given you an opportunity to reflect on the journey of Jesus into his last days and the sacrifices he had to make along the way. Some of us have been journeying together with the Lenten program every week in Lent and I am grateful that there are so many of us who has open our hearts to journeying together and growing together. For many of you who couldnt make it, I pray that Gods graces be upon you in your endeavours and hope that you could join us perhaps for a Retreat. If you feel that life is getting busy and hectic and you are looking for some quality space and time for God, perhaps you need some time to sit and rest in the Lord.
So invite all of you to our Young Adults Retreat which will be happening on the night of the Friday 9th April and finishing on the Sunday 11th April. The theme for the retreat will be, Speak Lord, Your Servant is Listening and what better place to do it than the Benedictine Cottages and Abbey in Jamberoo. As some of you may know already, this Abbey is a perfect place to wind down, chill out and be silent in the presence of our Lord.
The retreat will focus on our journey from the Road of Jerusalem to Emmaus, where our Lords disciples recognised the presence of our Lord in their journey after his death. In the same way, we will journey together to recognise our Risen Lord in our midst and in the people we meet.
The Abbey has a really nice Rainforest Walk which we could go to for prayer, meditation and relaxation. The meals will be provided by the nuns and there is a really nice shop we can go to for our own reading and resources.
5th March 2010
Over the week, I have had the privilege to meet with the principal for St Marks and BJ23rd Primary, Peter Stoyles, Fr Kevin and the RE coordinator, Natalie to talk about being involved in Catechesis for the Year 10s of St Marks. I am so happy to say that this is a huge step in working together with the school and I am excited that the youth ministry is now part of the bigger picture of the Learning community of BJ 23.
Also, we are always welcoming new members to our group, so if you are new to our parish or have been thinking of joining for a while, visit our website for more info and join our facebook group!
7th February 2010
The website was a hit! Over the last week we have had quite a number of visitors to the site and I am glad that the youth are logging on too! I had a few parents comment to me that this is what is needed for our young people today, seeing that they are so technologically minded, the website offers a wholesome way to grow together in faith. So if you have young people who had been thinking about joining our group but are unsure, send them to the website and I am sure they will consider coming to the program without much encouragement from you.
1st February 2010
REVIVE welcomes 2 new members to our group, Marie Lijauco and Martin Lijauco. They are a brother and sister duo and are very musically talented! They were a hit last week and we look forward to creating music with them! If you are interested in our music ministry, please call or email Ray Tangunan on 0415 602 368, rtnike_hotmail.com
21st January 2010
Blaze is BACK, and I am so excited for 2010! We will be launching our new website soon, so watch out this space for more information. With the website, you can find out more information about us and our programs and be updated with what the youth and young adults are up to. We will also have a blog page and webcasts so you can watch and hear more about our progress and share your ideas!
This year, I am also very pleased to be working closer with the learning community of Blessed John 23rd. Thanks to Fr Kevin and the principal of St Marks and BJ23rd Primary, Peter Stoyles, the youth ministry will serve not only our parish community but the learning community as well.
Welcome back to all our young people to school! Lets make this year a great year!

The parish of Blessed John XXIII Glenwood-Stanhope Gardens is a faith community with the Eucharist as its heart. Like the city on a hill, it shines the light of Christ for all to see and invites everyone to share in the responsibility of enriching the life and faith of the community by sharing their gifts and talents.
